A lot of people write a speech in the car. They rehearse what they have tried. They apologize for their body before anyone has asked. They leave with a script unused and a question unasked.
You do not need a speech. You need a few facts and one sentence about what you want from the visit. How clothes feel. How the afternoon lands. How loud food is at night. How long this has been true. What you have already tried. What you are curious about, including medicine, if you are.
Write it down if that helps. Hand it over if talking is hard. You are allowed to say “I want options explained, not a pep talk.” You are allowed to say you are not ready. You are allowed to ask what the next step would be if you were.
A Good State is a publication. We cannot sit in the room. We will not tell you that you are approved for anything. A licensed clinician who knows your history is the person who can talk about tests, medicines, or leaving things alone.
The visit goes better when shame stays in the parking lot. Bring the facts. Leave the defense.
